You know it's been a bad lunch when...

You arrive back to work with a MacDonalds under your arm.

So my friend's girlfriend told us we should really try out The Bailey for lunch. She told us that it had a good lunch menu and that he wouldn't be hard pushed to find something he'd like on it. This is to a guy who likes good normal wholesome Irish food and nothing else! The menu had very little of that. When the waitress appeared, we all looked in our wallets and decided that a tenner for food we weren't even interested in wasn't a good choice, so we ordered tea, black coffee and a latte. He decided to ask for a ham and cheese sandwich, which wasn't on the menu but which we all hoped they could whip up. Apparently they don't do the whole "specialised sandwiches" there, so he had to settle for a chicken roll which apparently tasted like "chicken poo". Due to the rest of us only having drinks, we had to move to a less comfortable out of the way table, even though there were only about four other groups in the place and no real need for extra lunch table space.

As we sat down, the waitress double checked our drinks orders;
Her: So that was two cappucinos and a tea right?
Us: No, a black coffee, a tea and a latte
Her: Ok, a black coffee, a tea and a cappucino.
Us: No, no cappucino, just a latte!
When she arrived back she had a black coffee and two lattes, honestly, if you can't remember the drinks we ordered after we've told you three times, GET A PEN AND PAPER!!

We drank our expensive drinks whilst my friend picked at his expensive roll then decided he'd had enough and we asked for the bill. The waitress came over to my friend and started quizzing him about why he had barely touched his food. She behaved kinda like the stern mother who forces you to eat all of your greens. I can understand her being concerned over him barely touching it in case the food was bad, but to come over saying "why haven't you eaten your food?!!" was a bit over the top, she should have kept it simply to "did you not enjoy your meal sir?" or some such thing instead of giving him the third degree.

So after finally escaping, and feeling that all of the waiting staff must hate us since we didn't eat anything off of their *superb* :/ menu, we left, knowing that we will never go back there again! I ended up queuing in MacDonalds knowing that at least I would eat and afford the crap they served up.

The Bailey gets four unanimous thumbs down!

Work Work Work

They've made me be busy :(

It only took a year and two months, but I now have stuff to do, alas my freedom-loving days are gone!

In other news, I'm going snowboarding! :D Unfortunately I'm horribly unfit so I also get to go to the gym :/ Ah well, maybe I'll soon be healthy enough for Taekwon-do!

Also: I'll be over in London seeing NIN in March!! *squeeeeeeee*

Boredom, you have made me reach new lows

So, at the moment, *all* of my friends are considering making webcomics...but their webcomics are detailed, and well drawn...probably not so well thought out but...they're getting there!

Anyhews, after listening to the Little Gamers give a talk on how their comic is aboot taking the piss out of their friends, how they come up with ideas at random and how they can't draw to save their lives ... I thought "I could do that!"

Well, truth is I'm far too lazy, plus there's the problem with not being able to draw, although I'm certain improvement would be had, improvement from nothing ain't all that great... However, I've been reading through Machall's archives too. One style of drawing which Ian McConville employs isn't all that difficult. I know that mine wouldn't be quite so good, or even a quarter as good...but it could have potential...

Lastly, I think I could get a years supply out of things Ivan has said in the last ten minutes, to anyone! (including his ma) so jokes wouldn't be a problem....

Then again, I'd have to get over supreme laziness and actually set up a domain deelie...and pay money for it :( Hrmmm....google ads.... *ahem* but it'd be effort...

Without further ado, here be the first mock-up, very mock-up, MSPaint (it's all I've got in work) mock-up .... oh, and it also totally rips off this. Let's hope Adam doesn't mind! Especially if I give him some shameless plugs :D

Awesome-ness

Opeth were awesome! That's all that can be said. Yesterday was the third time I've seen them this year, and they were amazing again!

Unfortunately there were some drawbacks, namely, the crowd. Now, I don't mean all of the crowd, just ... a select few .... who all seemed to be standing around us.

There were the two annoying girls standing behind me who chattered constantly aboot the most mundane rubbish whilst the lead singer was cracking jokes. I turned and looked at them once or twice and they shut up, but continued on soon afterwards (apparently I can give dirty looks, I personally don't think I can).

Then, the ravers. A gang of aboot five guys and two girls. They were completely out of place, bar the girls, who seemed to be the only reason the guys went to an Opeth gig in the first place. Seriously, not a clue had they! On one occasion, I had cleared myself a nice wee headbanging space (apparently I headbang using the "thrust", meh, it stops my neck from falling to bits the next day, and it's not antisocial if I have my space..), when one of those buffoons decided to crowd in on it! No bother, I carried on knowing that he'd clear me some room in a bit, when I saw a fist coming towards me! Instant taekwondo guard up and a swift right straight for his ribs, but I pulled it because either he was just locking fists with his buddy, or his buddy had stopped him from punching me. I'm still not sure which, but after that he cleared a space for me and I carried on with my guard up. After this, one of the couples had the *nerve* to start necking during Windowpane! Honestly, that is a beautiful song, very melodic and gentle and just ... beautiful! Yet all I could see during it was two people sucking the faces off of each other! If I had a guy I was dating in an Opeth gig, and he did that to me, he'd be punched! Later on, that chick fecked off to the jacks (with waaaaaaay more hand gestures than necessary) and left yer man by himself. He started doing his own little rave dance, poking his finger in the air and moving his hands in a zig-zag manner...dude! That shit's gonna get you killed at a metal gig!

Long story short...I love Ivan :D In 3 mins, between the pair of us, all those annoying little shits got taken out! I turned to Ivan, we bounced off of each other, I bounced off of eof and used the momentum to bounce into the annoying loud-mouths behind me. According to eof, I didn't hit him all that hard, but I sent those two girls flying! >:) In this space of time, Ivan had crashed through the couple in front of him and a few of their friends, so I galloped after him, crashing into the couple on the left and the guy who'd tried to punch me and sending them flying. Then we were right past and had a straight line through to the center and the pit.

It was magical!

Hello officer, isn't it a nice evening?

It's funny how some things will remind you of other things. Take just now, for instance, when opening a bag of dry roasted peanuts, I couldn't help but notice that they smelt exactly like peanut butter.

In other news, I'm hungover as fuck.

The gig last night

On crowdsurfing:
Crowdsurfing is great, but guys, don't ask the girl beside you to give you a hoist up, I may be strong for a girl, but I'm not Xena! If this girl is nice, and laughs in your face whilst getting some other guys to help her hoist you up, do *NOT* leap up and throw both your knees directly into the air! Knees connecting with chins do not make for a pleasant taste in my mouth after I've bitten a chunk of flesh out of either side of my tongue.

On Dermo:
What can I say, the man's an idiot!

On Gill:
I didn't see her during the gig, I can only assume that she was hidden near the bar cradling a whiskey whilst singing offkey.

On my brother:
Beast of the pit.

On his friend:
What a shame, what a shame.

On the guy who sold him a seated ticket instead of standing:
Arsehole!

On the bouncers who wouldn't let him downstairs:
Bastards!

On the stupid American bitch I fucked across the pit:
You were annoying, it was funny, get over it!

On the drunken Celtic fans who thought they were hard men at the start of the gig:
I hope you've learned your lesson now.

On the pit in general:
Brilliant effort one and all!

On the big guy in the white t-shirt with glasses:
Congrats, but fuck me! You were big!

On the guy I teamed up with to shove the big guy with glasses away every time he came near us:
Thanks!

On the girls who got up on stage and giggled whilst looking out of place:
Pfft! Wusses!

On the guys who stopped all moshing even though there was now a girl-free pit (first time all night):
For shame guys, quit yer oogling and get back to the important things!

On the guys who got up on stage:
GRRRR!!! \m/

On the idiot who stage dived:
As my brothers said:
He missed the crowd.
He missed crossing the barrier.
He didn't miss the ground.
Gravity will always give a helpful hand.

On the Dropkick Murphys:
Awesome guys, just .... awesome!

PS: On the big guy from the Slayer mosh pit who asked me if I was "staaaartin' somethin'":
Always :D

PPS: On my best friend:
Happy Birthday :)

Busy busy busy...

Firstly, since I last posted, I have learnt that you shouldn't really give small children coffee... It was amusing but um...heh heh, nah, it was amusing! ;)

Secondly, um...I'm very busy atm. It's annoying really, but in the good kind of a way! This month is my gig month. Sure, sure, I know, so was June, but have you *seen* the line-up?! Awesome! I've already been to see American Headcharge/Panic Cell/Twin Method in the Voodoo Lounge last Friday, though I arrived late and missed Twin Method. The other two I must say were quite enjoyable, unfortunately I didn't appreciate the full experience as I'd already had a good bit to drink... From what I could tell through the haze, they were good!

Saturday, I saw Borat. Although some parts of this movie were funny...it could not be saved, do NOT go to see this!! It's awful!! At times, it's painful, I did not need to disgust my eyes and brain with this thing. Some people will find this amusing, but you know what, I'm not one of them, and those who do...if you've seen it, you know what bit in particular I'm talking aboot, perverted!

Thankfully my senses were able to rectify themselves with an unplanned Nathan Fillion marathon. It started by me innocently switching channels and having a Buffy episode with him in it come on, it continued by seeing Serenity on Sky movies and finished up by staying up late to watch Slither in a mate's house.

Sunday dawned, I tidied my room some and headed into town and off to The Point Depot. Slaaaaaaayeeeeerrrr!!! Apologies, The Unholy Alliance is what I meant to say ;P I arrived in time to see Lamb of God and In Flames, possibly Children of Bodom, I was at the bar...and then on came Slayer \m/ Out to the mosh pit with me! I bumped into a guy from taekwondo I knew and away! :D It was excellent, not half long enough though, I wasn't even close to fainting when they finished up!! It was great, I'm covered in bruises, my knee is somehow fucked, but recovering *and* I got a pair of fingerless Slayer gloves!! At Download, last summer, I went around three different sales booths and the Download fingerless gloves were all gone! I was crushed (I love fingerless gloves). They were the first thing I noticed on the Slayer sales booth as I came in the door! The second thing I saw was the guy take them off the display and sell off the last pair, crushed-ness :( Thankfully, a second booth still had them, so up I galloped and them I bought! :D Happy mosher!!! :D

So, my plans for this week...well, went to see The Last Kiss last night. It was fairly predictable, but an enjoyable watch nonetheless, oh, and maybe slightly depressing...actually, it kinda reminded me of Scrubs, I know, Zach Braff is the first clue, but still..Scrubs is funny and goofy most of the time, but every now and again you're brought back to the reality of working in a hospital where things go wrong and people die.. The Last Kiss was the more serious side of Scrubs, and of Zach Braff. It was interesting, but also depressing to watch, but still, just a movie, and not Scrubs, cos Scrubs is just awesome! :D

Tonight, 'tis Dropkick's night! I've never seen them live but I've heard so much about it that I'm very *very* excited!! Here's hoping that my knee is in one piece, for apparently the moshes are insane, the music is excellent and you can KISS ME, I'M SHITFACED!!!!

Oh, and um, the rest of the week is gonna be filled with going-away parties, graduation parties, birthday parties, Christening parties, going to Waterford and being back up in time for Monday when I'll be off to see Opeth and Paradise Lost.

It's all happening in Dublin, and it's all happening now ..... 'cept for the bits that are down in Waterford....

Wow it's been a while...

See, this is why I never keep a diary, I wander off and lose interest :)

So, in recent news, I got a pet, and he is only adorable! He's a four month old bearded dragon and I called him Gir, yes, he's just that cute! He was only 6inches long when I got him, aboot a month ago, but he's up to 8inches now, growing steadily and eating lots of crickets and a few greens. My parents haven't met him yet but already hate him >:D My mom tried to convince me the other day that I should be careful or he'll try to jump into my mouth...emmmmm......NO! He damn well understands that you shouldn't leap into the mouth of something bigger than you, it's a good way to get dead!

So, aside from my adorable little guy... I've rejoined taekwondo! It was aboot time really, what with the being out for bloody ages! Of course, after the first session my arm muscles and *especially* my leg muscles ached! Oh, and I managed to somehow sprain my ankle without realizing...it's healed up already though, it was only a light sprain...

The song currently stuck in my head is Awakening, by these guys. I was at The Village on Wednesday night to see them :D Obviously enough I was late into work the next day, oh, and my boss caught me napping...whoopsie!! Thank the great fluffy Heavens that it's Friday...1, 2, 3 .... DRIIIINK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

***EDIT*** Hehe, unlucky for some!

Moving Blues

I think I'm dying, I really think I am. Not even this coffee is waking me up! After an exhausting week, starting last Thursday there's still no end of things for me to do! I'm moving flat so, starting on Thursday, I had to pack up all my stuff and start moving it. Of course the lift in my new place broke and since I'm on the third floor, up four flights of stairs with me and my boxes. This went on on Thursday and Friday evening after work, then early Saturday morning. Saturday evening I did some cleaning, Sunday morning I did more packing and cleaning, during the afternoon I brought another load of stuff over, this time sans car. Monday was taken over because my old roommate from Austria was in Ireland so I went to see her, accidentally staying out late, so what I really needed was some rest!

Not a hope! I couldn't sleep last night with the lads already moved out even though we'd done a major cleaning session and I was exhausted. Then my alarm started beeping at 6:30 this morning and I had to get up and do two trips with my rucksack full of food and added things I'd forgotten over to the new flat. Got back just in time to let in yer wan that I was giving the keys back to. She went around the whole flat and told me it was filthy. We have to reclean the lads' bathroom, my shower, all the skirting boards, the hall and sitting room floor, the entire kitchen and all the countertops otherwise she was gonna take 340e (roughly) out of our deposit to pay for cleaners :( I'm exhausted and was hoping to go over to my new place this evening to sort out my stuff, but now I don't have a chance cos I'll have to spend the evening cleaning and *then* go meet my folks who decided to come up to Dublin to visit just when I don't have any free time :/ Shoot me? Please?

Durshka out.

Good Morning Sunshine!

So this morning I awoke from a dream which had a spider handgliding around my room. Entertaining as this was I'm terrified of spiders so not all that great. Anyways, I woke up and looked up to see a spider three sizes the size of a normal daddy long legs spider crawling across my ceiling. Now I don't know if I actually saw it or not, I'm very short sighted. Basically, it terrified me and I've been sleeping on the couch since then waiting for my flatmate to get up and check the top of my wardrobe for me. It makes vague sense because my rucksack from Austria had another hidden spider which eventually vanished and I don't know how big those scary foreign spiders get. I'm just hoping I imagined it.

Spraoi!!

This weekend saw me eloping down to Waterford for the Spraoi festival. It was a good laugh! I got to meet up with a bunch of friends I hadn't seen in ages as well as watch a life-size puppet show and some aerial acrobatics. This was all topped off by a scary nighttime parade (which terrified my friend's 20 month old son 'til he was brought back from the barrier) and a fireworks display.

On to the nights out! Friday I stayed in Dublin as 'twas my friend's house warming party, and a beautiful place it was too. The night managed to go smoothly and we all got merrily drunk. At aboot 3am we were all kicked out, and since lil' Ivan lives far away he ended up on my couch. Now, do you imagine that little shit let me sleep?!! Oooooohhh nooooo, he kept me up 'til 6am talking aboot serial killers! >:( Now, all that I wouldn't mind 'cept I had to get up at 9:30am to get the bus to Waterford :/

Anyhews, the Saturday night was a laugh, my friend (with the 20 month old son) was having a baby shower for her soon-to-be-born daughter. So, drinks at her place! Then out to the pub with her youngest brother and another of her friends. I kept bumping into people I knew, the terrors of small towns, and eventually bumped into my neighbour. He's friends with my older brothers and has been away in the states for a while (so has forgotten proper etiquette). He ended up walking me home (since the others lived in the opposite direction and sure he's my neighbour and my brother's friend and he should know better than to lay a finger on me!! Bah!!) Fecken eegit hit on me the entire way up the road and tried to kiss me (yes, I counted!) five times!! He just wasn't taking no for an answer, no matter how much I laughed at how pathetic he was! He even tried texting me the next day calling me "maneater" and inviting me out for a drink! Just because I didn't want to kiss the guy would *not* make me a maneater! Now I'm just wondering should I tell my brothers or not, they'd probably go for him and I hardly need *that* on my conscience! *sigh* Why are men so dumb?!!

Forgetfulness

Have you ever gone through one of those times when you're completely forgetful. I'm not talking about forgetting where you left your bag or shit once in a while then saying "Oh! I'm so forgetful! Hah hah!!" I'm talking about those times when it doesn't rain but it pours. I'm generally good at keeping track of things. My room may be a complete pigsty, but *I* know where everything is, and I mean everything! However, these enchanting moments where my memory works perfectly are also accompanied by times when my brain just goes to sleep. It only happens periodically, but now and again I'll just forget anything that's not tied to me!

This week was one of those! The other day, whilst in the midst of this I tried to leave my flat to go to work. I was going to cycle in, so I'm in the basement when I realise that I've forgotten my helmet, and have to go back for it. This was then followed by going in and out of my flat three times because I kept forgetting things. I eventually left and realised that I'd left all my rings behind, but by that stage...fuck it!

Today, as I left my flat I made sure I had everything...ummmm...not quite! I left my damn wallet behind me! This contained any money that was in it, all my cards (with which to get money) and my keycard to get in and out of work :/ BOLLOXED!!

Thus far, I can get into work through the very out of the way back door, ie: the bike shed, which I have a key for but can barely get in cos the lock's so stiff, and I went to the bank, knew the teller and could get out money...

So what else have I forgotten...oh yeah!! My friend's having a baby shower this weekend and I need to get her new baby a gift but neglected to get out enough money to pay for it... Wonder if I'd have enough time to get it tomorrow morning when I'm hungover and heading for a bus...

Durshka out.

David Gemmell - RIP

It's always a scary thing to have a household name. Someone who you've never met but whose deeds influence your every day life, in small ways, but ways you remember.

David Gemmell was one of these, I've read most of his books, those I haven't read are currently sitting in my to-read file. He was the first adult fantasy author I'd ever read. Reading through Lion Of Macedon, stolen from my older brother's hoard of books, I realised that I loved fantasy. I love going to a remote world where (to be poetic) imagination and the sword rule the day! However, it wasn't as simple as that! David Gemmell introduced me to characters like Druss, Waylander and Jon Shannow (Waylander being by far my favourite). These were ... to *attempt* to describe them, the kind of old western heroes you used to come across, tortured by their past, harsh and unforgiving, a lot of the time thinking "what the *fuck* am I doing here?!!", gritty! He had the clean cut characters, who were doing it for greater glory...these he generally tore down and made dirty, that or they were pricks! What I'm saying is, although he introduced me to fantasy, he also thought me that fantasy didn't have any rules, that was what was so fantastic about it! You don't need dwarfs, elves or dragons for a fantasy novel (though they do make some great additions) you just need to be able to follow your imagination wherever it will go.

He was a great author and had a brilliant imagination, one I'll sorely miss. I'm just happy he let the rest of us come along for the ride.

RIP David Gemmell.

Bad Day

Ok, so it hasn't been long enough to be a bad day just yet...However, since arriving in work, all of 40mins ago I have discovered that:

- My key to the bikeshed doesn't work, so if I don't get the proper one by the end of the day my bike will be locked in
- I forgot the top I'd picked out to wear in work today so I'm stuck in a very sticky and sweaty spagetti string top that *just* about covers my boobs but nothing else, no, not even that!
- Out of the three e-mails I sent to places saying "I'm interested in that room you have free" two have already replied that they've already let it, the third hasn't responded
- My thinkgeek order is being delayed until I can scan and e-mail my billing address details...and I don't have a scanner! (*note: not a discovery, I already knew I didn't have a scanner)
- My office doesn't have a scanner (I'd expected they would)

Yay! :/

*Update* Turns out my key for the bikeshed does work...I'm just weak :/

When the cat's away...

I'll get in a shitload of trouble! So, my two flatmates pissed off to Amsterdam for a week and left me all alone!

Notable things which happened while they were gone:

Day One:
I was sitting at home (thankfully I got home from work early that day) when I heard someone trying to open the door. Got up and looked out the peephole, some guy was bent down trying to shove a key through the keyhole and there was a bunch of girls with him. Since it was only early evening, I opened the door, glaring spectacularly, and asked him what he thought he was doing. Apparently he was from Mason's (not our Estate Agents) and thought the place was empty and was trying to get in to clean the place. Much as it would be nice to have the place clean, the fact that there were still people living there meant it was the wrong apartment, so he went away, eventually. Good thing I was home, I wouldn't like a bunch of strangers getting into my flat even if it was to "clean" the place :/

Weekend:
I went out Saturday night for a good girlie night, which was fun. For once I got all done up, looking the bee's knees and the cat's pajamas if I do say so myself (I *never* get dressed up...). Apart from the scary guy at the bar (I complimented his pac-man t-shirt and he asked me straight off if I had any "pills") I had a good night. Until I tried to get a taxi, which took forever! The taxi driver was a nice foreign guy who I chatted away to. As he dropped me off he asked if I was going straight in to sleep, then he asked me (whilst outside my apartment block so the git knows where I live..) if I wouldn't prefer to go back to his place and share a bottle of wine. Need I direct you to here? I told him that I had to go back in because my flatmates, two horribly over-protective guys, were waiting up for me and if I wasn't home they'd go mad! Then I got the hell out of there!

Last Night:
So it was my last night alone in the flat, I had feck all food but lots of beer... What was a girl to do?! So into the beer I did plunge! :D This was all well and good except that I'd barely eaten all day and to top things off, I'd cycled home using up all my energy. Needless to say, I was talking to God on the procelain telephone soon after. Generally I'd think "crap" and that'd be that. However, because I was home alone...I got scared :/ I started thinking that maybe I wouldn't stop throwing up, maybe I'd bang my head or maybe I'd simply pass out. So...I rang my friend Niall, the poor fucker! His phone was turned off so I left him a message saying something along the lines of "I'm really sick, I need your help, I'm really scared, could you come over please??". Eventually, as these things happen, I passed out. When I woke up I had five missed calls, a text message and a voicemail from Niall. He said he had to listen to the message three times before he could make out who I was or what I was saying and then I think I terrified the poor guy, I know I'd be scared shitless if I got a similar message from a friend..

The Next Day:
My wonderful flatmates finally got home, and Niall forgave me for putting his heart crossways :D So now I can put all of this horrid business behind me and bask in the glory that is their protection from strange goings-on.. Pity I move out all by myself in a month :(

Things are never easy

Below is a typical day for me...and you all wonder why I have feck all to do in work

Boss: You need to write a script! We need it asap, get to it!!
Me: Yessiree, siree!

1: Computer's b0rked
> Try to find who's responsible
2: Computer's the wrong computer
> Try to get my one back
3: Computer got plugged in too hastily, mixed-up the keyboard and mouse whilst not paying attention
> Have to reboot the computer to make them work
4: Shortcut to server has vanished
> Ring guy who knows aboot such things
5: Guy who knows aboot such things is gone
> Try to copy shortcut from another computer
6: That's the wrong shortcut
> Ring someone else to ask for their shortcut
7: They're busy
> Get them to call back to get the details later
8: Scripting has since been disabled on that server
> Send email to random guy to get it re-enabled
9: First guy calls, apparently testing was never enabled on that server
> He's gonna look into it for me, I have to wait

Waiting...waiting.....

Evil subconscious

Yup! 'Tis official! My subconscious is infinitely evil!

I have this talent right, if I really really need to get up at a certain time, I can set an internal clock. I just repeat the time in my head over and over before I go to sleep and I generally wake up in or around that time. It's very handy, doesn't always work and I use it as a backup to the good old alarm clock.

Last night, I did *not* set this internal alarm. This morning I was quite happily snoozing my alarm clock and accidentally sleeping in. However, my subconscious had other plans. Instead of me just coming fully and completely awake for no reason (that's the internal alarm clock method) my subconscious decided to shake me awake, literally! It remembered that while I was sleeping late I was becoming perilously close to missing my morning briefing, so it took matters into its own hands. I woke up because my entire body convulsed, I shook all over, leaping aboot an inch off of the bed! I wasn't having a nightmare, I don't have epilepsy, my subconscious simply decided that the best way to wake me up was to shake my entire body 'til I woke up fully...

*EVIL*
